High School Loses A Model of Excellence
Madison High School photography teacher Larry Prescott's body was recovered on an October Sunday morning in 2016 by Salmon Search and Rescue after a snowstorm hampered search efforts the previous night.
Prescott and BYU-Idaho student Thad Davis were hiking in the Kiln Canyon area of the Lemhi Range on Saturday when Prescott experienced breathing difficulties and collapsed, according to the Lemhi County Sheriff's Office. Davis then hiked for five hours to find cell service and call 911.
The sheriff's office, along with search and rescue teams from Salmon, Clark County, and Flathead County, Montana, responded. The search was suspended at 10:30 p.m. due to the storm and resumed at 6 a.m. Sunday.
A dedicated and talented educator, Prescott was passionate about the outdoors, especially the Lemhi Mountains, and was an experienced hiker and climber. The Madison School District described him as such on their Facebook page. He established the acclaimed photography program at Madison Senior High, inspiring many students. Prescott was also known for his kindness and thoughtfulness, and was a longtime supporter of the Madison Education Foundation, receiving their Excellence in Education Award.
